Task Management

By default, tasks have powerful attributes which help you get your work done. These attributes include assignee, due dates, description, etc. However, if the default attributes are not enough, you can add custom fields as you need.

Meistertask lets you create multiple individual checklists within a task and you can name them. You can also create tasks that repeat automatically at certain intervals. In addition, you can create a relationship between one task to another task called “Task dependencies”.

Workflow Automation

Workflow Automation is accessible for all MeisterTask Pro and Business users. It can help you to work more efficiently and consistently. This automation is executed automatically whenever a task is created in or moved to a specific section. Every section in your project board can be configured to run one or multiple automation.

For example, you can automatically assign new tasks to your team leader. When tasks move into the “In Progress” section, automatically start the time tracking. Then alert your colleagues on Slack when a task moves into the “Done” section.

Statistics & Reports

Statistics & Reports area is accessible for all MeisterTask Pro and Business users. It is divided into three areas, including Performance, Time Tracking, and Reports.

The Performance area shows the number of completed tasks vs the number of new tasks for a project in a certain time range. You can see the trend compared to the previous time range at a glance.

While the Time Tracking area shows the daily aggregated time tracked per project in a certain time range. There is also the top time trackers in your team as well as the top 5 tasks with the most time tracked.

Meanwhile, in the reports area, you can view and export individual reports about new, completed, overdue, upcoming or long-running tasks. In each report, you can either show tasks of all users and/or all projects or narrow the selection down to a specific assignee and/or project.

MeisterTask integrates with your favorite online apps to automate workflows and ensure smooth, productive work days. You are able to integrate Meistertask with communication platforms, email platforms, online cloud storages, and many more.

For software developers, you can integrate Meistertask with code repositories such as GitHub and Bitbucket. For example, when committing in GitHub with a special commit message, the relevant task in MeisterTask will be automatically completed. The task activity then contains a link back to the respective commit in GitHub.

Mobile App

Meistertask mobile apps

Meistertask provides mobile apps that help you manage tasks and projects effortlessly while on the go. It ensures that you never miss an important notification from your team members. So, the mobile app is the perfect companion to the online version.

In addition, it offers offline support that enabling you to update tasks even without an internet connection. As soon as the connection is restored, data is automatically synced between the app and the online MeisterTask’s web version.

User Experiences

For the first time after login, you will see the dashboard page that contains your checklists and tasks which are sorted by the due date by default. However, you can sort your tasks by name or project instead of the due date. In addition, the dashboard also shows notification list for you. Most importantly, only through the dashboard, you can add a new project.

Kanban View

In Kanban view, you can create task categories called “Section”. The sections may include task categories like “New”, “In Progress”, and “Done”. You can assign tasks to created sections and you can move them to another section later using drag and drop feature. You can also use the drag and drop feature to reordering tasks within one section.

Furthermore, Meistertask allows you to customize the Kanban view. You can show or hide tags, indicators, and task descriptions on task tiles.

Overall, the Kanban view gives a simple way to manage tasks. However, for the first time, I was confused after making a new section. That’s because the new section that has been made is not visible on the screen. While there was no scrollbar to slide the screen. Apparently, scrollbars only visible when the mouse is over the bottom of the screen.

And the last drawback that I feel on this platform, the UI is rather unpleasant in mobile browsers.

Customer Service & Support

MeisterTask’s knowledge base includes articles categorized by topic. In addition, users can access the Getting Started guide and training video to learn more about MeisterTask.

All the paid plan includes priority email support with a response time within one business day. In addition, the Business and Enterprise plan get to benefit from additional weekend support. And the Enterprise plan includes both a dedicated account manager and personalized onboarding assistance.

MeisterTask offers a free option and three paid plans, including Pro ($8.25/user/month), Business ($20.75/user/month), and Enterprise (customized). The main differences between the plans include the provided functionality, security restrictions, custom security view, and customer support services. See here for more details.

Pros and Cons

It is one of the easiest project management software in the market. Also, its functionality is flexible enough for customization. Most importantly, the platform offers a free plan without the limitation of users and projects. However, the free plan only provides basic features for managing projects.

There is no Gantt chart view or table view to display tasks. Also, unlike Trello, MeisterTask doesn’t allow users to assign tasks to more than one project members.

Overall, MeisterTask is a powerful and easy-to-use project management software. But it still needs little improvements. For example, it would be better if MeisterTask lets users assign tasks to more than one project members. Furthermore, the other options to view tasks are also can be a good improvement, such as a Gantt chart view and table view.
